Alvin first began learning the cornet at the age of 8 in his primary school days. As an active musician, he had the opportunity to perform with several ensembles such as Orchestra of the Music Makers, The Philharmonic Orchestra, the Singapore Armed Forces (SAF) Central Band, SAF Ceremonial Band, and the Lion City Brass Band.

During his National Service with the SAF Band, he toured with SAF Central Band twice, participating in the 5th Amur Waves International Military Bands Festival in Khabarovsk, Russia, and the Virginia International Tattoo held in Norfolk, Virginia.

Alvin was appointed as the Principal Cornet of the Lion City Brass Band on 11th August 2019.
