Jasper Tan
Associate Principal Bass Trombone
Singaporean bass trombonist Jasper Tan (b. 1993) is an active performer and educator in Singapore's classical music scene. He freelances in the Singapore Symphony Orchestra and the Metropolitan Festival Orchestra, and has also appeared with The Philharmonic Orchestra, the Lion City Brass Band, the Paul Anka band, Orchestra of the Music Makers and the Selangor Symphony Orchestra. Jasper was also the bass trombonist of the Asian Youth Orchestra for its 2013 tour through Vietnam, Singapore, China, Taiwan, Hong Kong and Japan.
Jasper recently won First Prize at the Singapore Low Brass Festival Solo Competition 2016. In January 2015, he presented "Bassics" at the Esplanade Recital Studio, programming several new works for bass trombone. He also premiered a work he commissioned, titled "Pentasy", by Singaporean composer Terrence Wong. He has also performed as a soloist with the Braddell Heights Symphony Orchestra and the NAFA Wind Ensemble.
Jasper is currently pursuing his Bachelor of Music degree at the Nanyang Academy of Fine Arts in collaboration with the Royal College of Music, London. He graduated from the Nanyang Academy of Fine Arts with a Diploma in Music Performance in 2013 and was a recipient of the Ngee Ann Kongsi Merit Award. His principal teachers include Damian Patti, Wang Wei, Zachary Bond, Shannon Pittaway and Fredi Sonderegger. He also has had the privilege to learn from such distinguished trombonists as Stefan Schulz, Brandt Attema, Ben van Dijk, Ian Bousfield and Joe Alessi, among others.
During his free time, Jasper enjoys playing pool and recently, cooking!
